Tunable and low bending loss of liquid-core fiber
نویسندگان
چکیده
The liquid-core fiber with relatively high refractive index difference between the core and cladding is proven to be bending insensitive. The single mode condition and bending loss of the fiber with a mixture of toluene and chloroform as its core material are studied. The results show that the bending loss of this fiber is not only much smaller than the conventional silica single mode fiber but also can be tuned by the temperature and liquid mixture ratio. This kind of fiber may find its potential applications in all-optical network. OCIS codes: 060.2270, 060.2290, 060.4510. doi: 10.3788/COL20100801.0014.

Numerical Analysis of Index-Guiding Photonic Crystal Fibers with Low Confinement Loss and Ultra-Flattened Dispersion by FDFD Method
In this article, perfectly matched layer (PML) for the boundary treatment and an efficient compact two dimensional finite-difference frequency-domain (2-D FDFD) method were combined to model photonic crystal fibers (PCF). For photonic crystal fibers, if we assume that the propagation constant along the propagation direction is fixed, three-dimensional hybrid guided modes can be calculated by us...

A novel design of Dual-Core Photonic Crystal Fiber (DC-PCF) with silica-air microstructures is proposed in this paper. Nonlinearity and confinement loss of DC-PCF are evaluated by using a Full-Vectorial Finite Element Method (FV-FEM) successfully. By optimizing the geometry of three ring DC-PCFs, a high nonlinearity (52w-1km-1) and low confinement loss (0.001dB/km) can be achieved at 1.55μm wav...
متن کاملPAPER Special Issue on Optical Fiber Sensors
distributed sensings on temperature and strain have been extensively investigated based on Raman [1] and Brillouin [2] scattering methods, respectively. During the course of our developments on a new sensor which can work as one of sensing elements for multi-point detection using a Rayleighscattering based OTDR through an optical fiber network, a hetero-core fiber optic sensor was exploratively...
متن کاملHigh dno/dT Liquid Crystals and their Applications in a Thermally Tunable Liquid Crystal Photonic Crystal Fiber
We have analyzed the physical origins of the temperature gradient of the ordinary refractive index (dno=dT) of liquid crystals. To achieve a large dno=dT, high birefringence (Dn) and low clearing temperature play crucial roles. Based on these guidelines, we formulated two exemplary liquid crystal mixtures, designated as UCF-1 and UCF-2. The dno=dT of UCF-1 is 4 higher than that of 5CB at room t...
متن کاملHoley Fibers for Low Bending Loss
Recently, broadband-access network has spread out rapidly, and Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) has showed a stable growth. Nevertheless, for the prevalence of additional FTTH, the so-called 'last one mile problem', which entails a huge cost for constructing optical fiber networks to end-users, has to be solved. To this end, it is necessary to improve economical efficiency of the products for network a...
